Brain Health Coaching:

Frequently Asked Questions

Can dementia really be prevented?

No one can promise prevention. What the research shows is that close to half of dementia cases worldwide are linked to modifiable risk factors — things many of us can influence through how we live. Coaching helps you address the factors within your control, consistently, over time.

What is a brain health behaviorist?

It's a coach who specializes in the science of cognitive health and the behavior change that supports it. My work sits at the intersection of lifestyle medicine, behavioral neuroscience, and brain health — and my role is to help you turn what the research says into habits you can actually keep.

Can lifestyle changes make a difference if dementia runs in my family?

Genes are part of the story, but for most people they aren't the whole story, and they aren't the ending. The research suggests how you live still matters, even when family history raises your risk. We focus together on the modifiable factors that are within your control.

Is it too late if I'm already having memory problems?

It’s rarely too late to support your cognitive health. Many of my clients come to me after a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). We focus on preserving function and quality of life, alongside your physician's medical care.

Am I too old for this to matter?

Almost certainly not. The brain stays adaptable, and the evidence suggests it's rarely too late to support cognitive health. "You're not too old, and it's not too late" isn't a slogan to me — it's where the science points.

How is a brain health coach different from my doctor?

Your physician diagnoses and treats. As a coach, I help you do the daily work — turning medical guidance and the evidence on lifestyle into habits you can actually sustain. I work alongside your physician, never in place of them.

What is the Bredesen Protocol?

It's a personalized, multi-factor approach to brain health developed by Dale Bredesen, MD, delivered through Apollo Health's PreCODE and ReCODE programs. A physician sets the medical plan — the "what." As a Bredesen-trained coach, I help you carry it out day to day — the "how."

Do I need to be on the Bredesen Protocol to work with you?

Not at all. I offer general brain health coaching for clients interested in improving and preserving cognition. If you have been diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), I strongly suggest that you consider joining the ReCODE Program.

Must I have a physician to work with you?

For PreCODE or ReCODE clients, I require you to have a Bredesen-trained physician or a primary care physician willing to support the protocol.

Do you work with clients outside of Texas?

Yes. I work with clients and their families across the United States via telehealth (video communications). I’m based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

What happens in the free consultation?

It's a relaxed 30-minute conversation — no pressure, no obligation. We talk about what's bringing you here, what you're hoping for, and whether we're a good fit to work together. Care partners are welcome to join.

How soon will I see results?

I won't put a timeline or a guarantee on it — no honest professional can. Cognitive health responds to consistent habits over time, not quick fixes. What I can promise is a clear plan and steady support while you do the work.

Is coaching covered by insurance?

Not yet. As a newer profession, health coaching is generally fee-for-service. I'm glad to talk through the options during your consultation.
