Is Your Tap Water Aging You?

Drinking water is a key component of living an anti-aging lifestyle.

A healthy body and brain need water to function. Water plays a vital role in the way cells work and in removing dangerous toxins.

If you become dehydrated, normal body processes and brain cells just can't function. In the case of long-term dehydration, you can even age your body and your brain.

Are you drinking enough water?

The traditional rule of thumb is that you should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day (at least).

[Interestingly, Mayo Clinic and other health experts now claim that total fluid intake (water and other fluids) is what should be measured -- 3+ liters for adult men and 2.2+ liters for adult women.]

What kind of water do YOU drink?

For most of us, it's tap water. We freely chug it down, make it into coffee and tea, steam our healthy veggies in it, make our ice out of it.

But, do you REALLY know what else is coming from your tap besides H2O...

Contaminants? Carcinogens? Heavy metals? Pharmaceuticals?

You need to know.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has a great Tap Water Database -- just enter your zip code, chose your city, and take a gander at the results.

My tap water contained 12 cancer-causing chemicals at levels above health guidelines and a host of brain-damaging heavy metals, including aluminum, arsenic and cadmium.

The tap water I was devotedly drinking for 'health' was actually aging me and significantly increasing my chances of developing a debilitating disease, like cancer or dementia.

What to do? I could have switched to spring water or mineral water, but I wasn't keen on the expense or the plastic bottles. So, I purchased a water purification system to filter my tap water.

If filtration appeals to you, the EWG also offers a handy Water Filter Buying Guide that can help you chose a filter that matches your needs and your budget.

Me, I chose a super-easy counter-top reverse osmosis system, the AquaTru (affiliate link). I've used it multiple times a day for a year now with no problems and great tasting CLEAN water. It's NOT the cheapest system, but the quality of its filtration brings me peace of mind.

Now when I chug those 8 glasses a day, I know that water is only adding to my health...and not adding anything else.
